When is the Best Time to Launch Your Beverage Brand or Product?

Seasonality in the Beverage Industry

Just like in any industry and with any product, the beverage market has its seasons, which can vary depending on the nature of the product. To create your own brand, it’s essential to understand both the market’s seasonality and the seasonal aspects of your own product. Like most markets, the beverage industry is typically divided into spring/summer and autumn/winter seasons.

The Preparation Phase: Spring/Summer Season

The spring/summer season is the peak season for most beverage products, with the highest demand for soft drinks and alcoholic beverages alike. For a startup beverage brand, this also means that during this period, manufacturing facilities have very limited or no capacity to produce new products.

The most critical period for creating your own beverage is the preparation phase during the spring/summer season. Focus on perfecting your recipe, conducting tests, obtaining all necessary permits and paperwork, and finalizing the packaging so that when the peak season ends, you’ll be ready to start production.

Don’t rush the development of your recipe and commercial formula! This is a crucial part of beverage production. Without a “perfect” recipe, your product is more likely to fail.

The preparation phase, including recipe and commercial formula development, can take an average of 3-6 months, and this timeline should account for the time and complexity of sourcing special and hard-to-find ingredients. If your formula includes ingredients that need to be sourced from abroad or exotic locations, which can take 4-8 weeks or more, this phase may be further extended. However, as mentioned earlier, don’t rush it; this is the most crucial period in creating your product, and the time you invest will pay off.

Recipe Ready, Production Begins: Autumn/Winter Season

Once you’ve completed all the important steps in the preparation phase, you’re officially ready to start producing the first batch of your products. Because you’ve taken these crucial steps during the peak season, it will be much easier to initiate production during the autumn/winter season when manufacturing facilities are less busy after the peak season.

But why is it so important for manufacturers to have extra time for us if we have the “perfect” recipe? Because the production of new products always comes with unexpected challenges and complications that need to be resolved on-site. If time is pressing and there’s pressure on the production line, these problems will be addressed superficially, and your product will suffer as a result.

The first batch is always the most challenging in beverage production. The more complex your commercial formula, the more unexpected obstacles you may encounter, and it becomes harder to produce the final product exactly as it was in the laboratory. This is why it’s crucial to choose the post-peak season for the production of your first product, as it will reveal how many attempts it takes to achieve the desired outcome.

Important Considerations for a Successful Launch

We’d like to note that the mentioned timeframes and multiple attempts are not necessarily typical and primarily apply to products with internationally recognized, potentially award-winning potential in both the Hungarian and international beverage markets. Anyone can produce a sugary soft drink with artificial flavorings and colorings in a matter of weeks or even days, but creating premium quality products requires time and patience. Time and patience will pay off many times over when your product wins its first international awards.

If you follow the schedule mentioned above and everything goes well on the production line, you’ll have plenty of time before the next peak season to build your sales and marketing network and establish or maintain business relationships. You’ll already have a solid and ready product to present during meetings.
